the displayed $199 price. It would provide a complete 6–19mm spanner sequence,
standard metric sockets from 6–22mm, an AF socket range, selected metric deep
sockets and the main 3/8-inch-drive attachments needed for general automotive
servicing.
The difficulty is establishing whether that is the product Autobarn will
actually supply. The listing title refers primarily to the 14-piece spanner
set, and the only merchant photograph shows those 14 spanners without either
socket set.
In contrast, the composite part number is CH6023/1001/1128, and Autobarn explicitly lists a 35-piece
3/8-inch-drive socket set, a 14-piece metric spanner set and a 10-piece
3/8-inch-drive socket set.
CH6023, CH1001 and CH1128 are genuine Chicane product numbers. CH1128 is more
accurately described by Chicane as a 10-piece 3/8-inch-drive metric deep socket set.
If all three are included, the package contains 59 reusable tool and drive
pieces. The spanner pouch, CH1001 plastic case and CH1128 steel socket rail are
additional storage items and are not needed to reach the component piece counts.
The Chicane reference prices current when checked were $129.99 for CH6023,

The Chicane CH1153 is a well-balanced metric toolkit for automotive
maintenance, household repairs and roadside backup. Its greatest strength is
that the 95-piece number is not inflated by counting the storage case or large
quantities of disposable consumables.
Every counted item is a reusable tool, socket, driver bit, hex key or drive
attachment. Thirty-two pieces are screwdriver bits, but the remaining
inventory still includes a meaningful selection of sockets, spanners, pliers
and heavier hand tools.
The main 3/8-inch-drive socket range is particularly useful. It contains every
whole-millimetre size from 8mm through 22mm, providing 15 standard sockets

How the dual-drive system works

This is a practical combination for a touring vehicle because the two kits
address different roadside problems. The mechanic package helps with general
maintenance and minor repairs, while the tyre kit may temporarily seal selected
punctures in suitable tubeless tyres.
The displayed $183.16 bundle price is $45.79 below the same-day $228.95
separate-product total. That is an accurate 20% mathematical saving based on
the retailer’s displayed prices.
The bundle price was also lower than the $199 standalone price displayed for
the mechanic kit when checked. Dynamic prices can change, but under those
conditions the complete bundle cost less than purchasing the mechanic kit alone.
The mechanic package is broad rather than highly specialised. It includes
metric standard and deep sockets, spanners, a 72-tooth ratchet, breaker bar,
screwdrivers, hex keys, several pliers, a crimper, circlip tools, hammer,
hacksaw, file, punches, pry bar and electrical spares.
Its 174-piece title requires context. Ninety-six pieces are automotive fuses
and terminals. The large storage bag and three internal pouches count as four
more pieces. The reusable hand-tool and interchangeable-tool subtotal is
74 pieces.
The tyre-repair kit has a separate 42-piece count. Based on the current
product imagery, that total appears to include 20 repair strings, five valve
caps, five valve cores, three replacement valve stems, two T-handle repair
tools, side cutters, a valve-core tool, lubricant or repair compound, a pencil
gauge, a hex key, a promotional key ring and the hard case itself.
This means the combined bundle contains 216 counted pieces, but it should not
be described as a 216-piece mechanics set. Most of the additional counted
items are puncture consumables and small valve components.
The tyre kit’s main repair method uses an external plug or string inserted
through the puncture from outside the tyre. It is principally suited to

vehicles, recovery points, equipment ratings, terrain and operator knowledge
are all suitable.
The displayed $294.40 bundle price is $73.60 below the same-day $368

The mechanic package is broad rather than highly specialised. It includes
standard and deep metric sockets, metric spanners, a 72-tooth ratchet,
breaker bar, pliers, through-tang screwdrivers, hex keys, a crimper,

Its 174-piece title needs context. Ninety-six pieces are fuses and terminals,

snatch strap, one extension strap, one tree-trunk protector, two bow shackles,

Understanding MBS, WLL and capacity
The recovery items use several different rating terms. They are not interchangeable.

Working load limit
The maximum load permitted during normal use under the
manufacturer’s specified conditions.
Capacity
A general published rating that requires the product label and
instructions to determine whether it represents WLL, MBS or
another test value.
The snatch strap, extension strap and tree-trunk protector are published with
minimum breaking strengths. The bow shackles carry working load limits.
The snatch block is described only as having an 8000kg capacity.
The safe system is controlled by the suitability and rating of every component,
including the vehicles’ recovery points. A high strap rating does not compensate
for an unrated attachment point.

A snatch strap stores energy as it stretches and releases that energy to assist
a bogged vehicle. That stored energy is also what makes incorrect use capable
of causing severe injury or death.
Australian mandatory product-safety guidance recommends that a recovery strap’s
minimum breaking strength be between two and three times the vehicle GVM and
that it be selected for the lighter of the two vehicles involved.
Check that the strap has a permanent warning label, supplier identification,
batch or serial code and minimum breaking strength. The instructions and
packaging should also contain the required safety information.
Do not use a snatch strap for lifting, conventional towing, winching or securing
cargo.
5000kg winch-extension strap

The broad strap is intended to spread load around a suitable tree during a
winch recovery and prevent a narrow winch rope from cutting into the bark.
The operator must still assess the tree’s health, root stability, diameter,
direction of pull and environmental restrictions. A dead, damaged, small or
poorly rooted tree may fail.
Do not wrap the winch rope directly around the tree and do not connect the
winch hook back onto its own rope.
Two 4.7-tonne bow shackles
Two rated bow shackles are included. Each has a published working load limit
of 4.7 tonnes.
Inspect the shackle body, pin, threads and permanent rating marks before every
recovery. Do not use a shackle that is bent, cracked, badly corroded, stretched
or difficult to thread.
Avoid side loading and follow the manufacturer’s pin-tightening and loading
instructions. Do not substitute an unrated hardware-store shackle.
A rated shackle is not an approved recovery point. It must connect only to a

Digging sand, mud or snow away from the tyres, axles and underbody can
substantially reduce the load before using a strap or winch.
